Our Process

    We go above and beyond in our training, studies, and research to ensure that we deliver the highest standard of placenta products We ensure that our zero waste policy applies to every placenta, and provide a unique experience for every family.

    The Sweet Pea team is trained in the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method of preparation which steams the placenta to a minimum internal temperature of 160F degrees. This is necessary to kill bacteria, before dehydrating. We follow the blood borne pathogens and OSHA regulations for handling and encapsulating placentas.

    We ensure that each placenta is processed in the order that they are received, and encapsulation is always started within 48 hours of being received. The placenta is considered viable in a deep freezer for up to six months, and in the fridge for up to three days. Once a placenta is in open air not on ice, it is only viable for up to six hours.

    The first step in our placenta encapsulation process involves a thorough cleaning. We begin by gently rinsing the placenta with warm water. Then, we prepare a soak using a solution of apple cider vinegar and warm water. This helps to naturally cleanse and remove any residual blood or debris. After the soak, we rinse it again with warm water, ensuring it’s perfectly clean.

    Next, we carefully inspect the placenta to ensure it is in optimal condition for encapsulation. Following the inspection, we move on to the printing stage, where we use plant-based food coloring to capture a beautiful and lasting impression of the placenta. Once the printing is complete, we give the placenta another gentle wash to remove any remaining traces of the plant-based food coloring.

    With a clean slate, we meticulously prepare the placenta for the steaming process. This involves carefully slicing fresh ginger, jalapeno, and lemon. These ingredients are known for their beneficial properties and are added to the steaming process to enhance the final product. The placenta is then carefully steamed along with these aromatic additions.

    After steaming, your placenta is carefully sliced into thin pieces and dehydrated until fully dry. This ensures proper preservation and prepares it for processing. Once dried, we gently grind the placenta into a powder. This powder is then used to create the placenta products you selected for your personalized Placenta Keepsake Basket.
